Introduced with the IBM System/370 family of computers in 1971, the IBM 129 Card Data Recorder was a programmed, data-storage, manual keyboard entry card punching and verifying machine designed to punch computer data on then standard IBM 12-row/80-column punched cards. A replacement for the previous IBM 029 Printing Card Punch from 1965, the new 129 was available in three models and used new transistorized memory to store up to six computer programs internally. Memory selection, as well as the ability to toggle between punch and verify modes, was controlled using the large centrally mounted rotary switch on the keypad controller. The model presented here depicts an IBM 129 Card Punch, Model 3, which incorporated the dual print / verify features.
