First flown at Edwards Air Force Base, in the California desert in 1952. It was designed for twice the speed of sound. But only managed to go supersonic in a dive. It provided valuable research data. Partly made of Titanium because of the expected heating from the air resistance at high speed. Nearly 1200 pounds of research instruments were installed.
