The National Hotel at Mammoth Hot Springs

The National Hotel at Mammoth Hot Springs

W_LeMay
The opulent National Hotel at Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming in Yellowstone National Park was completed in 1885 and offered one of the first high-quality lodging options in the park. Designed by L.S. Buffington, a prominent Minnesota architect, the large edifice was over 400 feet long with 150 guest rooms, a large dining room and an octagonal tower. It was later significantly altered in 1914, when the pitched roof was flattened and the tower removed. The building was painted white and a wing was added to the right side of the hotel, while a larger dining room was built onto the rear of the building. By the 1930s, the hotel was again in poor shape and it was razed in 1936. Today only the wing added in 1914 remains as the present Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel, along with a small 1930s lobby addition. Feel free to use this model as you see fit, on the condition that you contact me first so I know where it is being used (I'd love to see it wherever it ends up), and give me a mention or credit wherever it is used or published. #Victorian #Hotel #Yellowstone #MammothHotSprings
