PROGRAM -
The exhibition space is positioned on the east side of the pavillion
so to receive the most mixed air and provide protection
for occasional wind gusts. The kitchen serves as the public
entrance and throughway to the alternate exit. The outreached
“wings” act as ramps for patrons entering and exiting
as wells as a place for repose during the summer evenings.
The form takes on many variables. It acts as a shell protecting its
internal core, while embracing entry through its western gesture to
Newbury Street and rear alley. The curvalinear east face can provide
shade in the summer and protect pedestrians from the rain. With all
that, the building truley serves only two purposes, provide adequate
wind ventilation and electricity for on demand use. The form is now
established, with strategically placed entrys and openings for effective
ventilation wind speeds, yet the programs as yet to culuminate in any
way. The last wind analysis provided the guidance for programmatic elements
based on the required cfm for each specific space. Thus wind
ventilation outweighs energy production in terms of program design.
The interior condition consists of a 2.4 m/s infiltration which diminshes
to below 2 m/s as it courses throught the interior. Sunlight
is also provided by this opening at the top of the form.
Thus sun and wind work together to breathe life into the form.
