In the early part of the 15th century, in Mainz, Germany Johannes Gutenberg invented the first printing press using movable lead type. The design was based on existing wine presses. Apparently there are no drawings of Gutenberg’s original printing press and no accurate records of presses exist until the late 15th century. This model is based on the full scale reproduction at the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The idea for this model came from A.J.Unknown’s SketchUp model of a Gutenberg press in the 3DWH. I have had inspiration and a lot of help from Georg Ebner who builds great SetchyPhysics model under the name of Sophie9536. This model also uses SP and is fully operational. To wok the model in SketchyPhysics, use the “i” key to raise an d lower the platen, the ”w” to move the type bed under the press and the down arrow to lower the press. #Gutenberg #press #printing #SketchyPhysics
