USS Relief

USS Relief

Turd F.
This is my rendition of a ship similar to the USS Relief. The Relief was as a passenger ship built for the Maine Steamship Co. in 1896 and was originally named the "John Englis." Two years later, the Spanish-American War broke out and the John Englis was bought by the US Army for use as a hospital ship. After her war service, she was later transferred over to the Navy in 1902. The USAHS Relief was comissioned from February 6, 1908 to June 10, 1910 and cruised with the Great White Fleet of 1907-09 as part of the auxiliary fleet. Although officially decomissioned, the Relief served as a floating hospital in the Philipines during WWI. In 1918, she was named the "Repose" inorder to lend her previous name to a new hospital ship under construction (AH-1). In 1919, she was sold to merchant use and served under several corporations for the next few decades. #1896 #1908 #army #Auxiliary #Great_White_Fleet #hospital #hospital_ship #John_Englis #navy #passenger #Relief #Repose #SpanishAmerican_War #USS #WWI
