This church is the Cathedral of the catholic diocesan "Haarlem - Amsterdam". The Cathedral was upgraded in 1948 by the Pope to Basilica. The architect of this church is Jos Cuypers, this Cuypers is the son of Pierre Cuypers (P.J.H. Cuypers). The construction of this Cathedral started in 1895 and took place in 3 periods, the church was completed in 1930. This st. Bavo church is located on the outskirts of Haarlem city center.
The Bavo Basilica in Haarlem is the only church in the Netherlands that has built as a cathedral. The other cathedral that once had this honor was at that time, the cathedral of Utrecht, but it's now a former cathedral. This Church named "Dom van Utrecht" has changed of owner in the year 1580 to the Protestant-Churches,
