St Andrew's Kirk 1849, Launceston

Robin V.
Built from stuccoed brick with a freestone steeple, St Andrew’s Presbyterian Kirk first started construction in 1949 and was completed in 1850. St Andrew's church had its first organ installed in 1867 which was built by J.W. Walker of London, England. During the early 1900s, a 2 story Gothic revival extention was added to the northern section of the church which extended onto St John Street but was unfortunately demolished in the 1970s as part of the Civic Square project. The new northern section was completed on the 23 September 1973 by Paul Barth Builders and was designed by architect E.S. Wright to bear close resemblance to the original southern portion (with the exception of more modern looking windows). Work was recently undertaken on the original southern portion to repair the stucco work and repaint.
