For the last 20 years I have measured many sites for all types of small to medium projects. I always felt it was very neccessary to spend this time at the site, experiencing it's surroundings, orientation, ambience etc. These important factors always fed into the final design.
For this reason I preferred to do measuring myself. The range nowadays, however, of equipment and services surrounding surveying is really advanced - but ouch the cost !!
I've always been interested in historical techniques and amazed at what was acheived so this is my modern take on plane tabling, made from bits and pieces from my garage. Early results are surprisingly accurate.
