Azzurra Air was an Italian airline, founded in December 1996 by Air Malta and based initially in Bergamo Orio al Serio, subsequently in Milan Malpensa, . In 2003, the acquisition of the French Air Littoral by Azzurra Air was announced, but the agreement fell through due to poor financial conditions. It was sold by Air Malta to the "Seven group" investment fund. In 2004, flight operations ended and the company was soon declared bankrupt. It served flights to, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Spain, Greece and other Mediterranean destinations. Azzurra Air operated a scheduled flight between Bergamo and Rome. Starting from 1997 it began operating flights between Turin and Zurich, Paris and London City and in 2003 a flight between Milan Malpensa and Rotterdam. Its fleet included 19 aircraft: 2 Airbusa A320-200, 8 Boeing 737-700 and 9 Avro RJ70/RJ85. It operated several scheduled flights for Alitalia with the same aircrafts for about 4-5 years. All other services were charter flights.
