This detail illustrates a masonry window head condition with a loose steel lintel angle over a steel stud backing with exterior sheathing. The rough opening is treated with transition membrane which engages with the air/water/vapor barrier in the field of the wall providing continuous resistance to air and moisture. The lintel bears on the brick at the jambs of the window. Continuous insulation offers excellent thermal control. An optional cavity drainage insert above the lintel protects the weep vents at the bottom of the cavity from becoming obstructed. The steel lintel is protected with thru-wall flashing returning vertically at each end to form an end dam. The durable drip edge guards against moisture reentry and may be notched to avoid excessively thick laps. This detail also incorporates a vertical brick expansion joint in-line with the end of the lintel
