The system used in this tower was designed by Nikola Tesla. This tower was designed to transmit free electricity throughout the city of Wardenclyffe and set up a wireless telecommunications system throughout the world. It was a "proof of concept" for the idea that elecrtricity could be sent throughout the world wirelessly and recieved for free by "cutomers". Construction began in 1902, but because the primary investor for the project, J.P. Morgan, cut the funding, the tower was demolished in 1917. The tower was designed so that each of its components could be easily removed and replaced.
