The Class 143, originally called the DR Class 243, is a "universal electric locomotive" built by LEW Hennigsdorf from 1984 to 1991. 646 total engines were manufactured, and ran on DB intercity trains. After the Deutsche Bundesbahn and Deutsche Reichsbahn merged to form DBAG and were reclassified as Class 143.
