Sedia 1 is a chair or a chair kit of the Italian designer Enzo Mari. The original design was coined in the year 1974. 2010 the chair has been introduced in the assortment of the Artek company.
Enzo Mari initially designed the Sedia 1 Chair for his Autoprogettazione project. This was a collection of furniture that exceptionally consisted of simple and affordable materials in the 70's.
The Sedia 1 Chair still appears as kit as homage to this exceptional project. It consists of different, cut boards out of untreated pinewood, nails and assembly instructions. After unpacking, the chair has to be assembled by oneself. Only a hammer is necessary for it.
The kit’s form of the Sedia 1 Chair is an expression of Enzo Mari’s design philosophy, after which design is always also education. Artek produced the documentation “Enzo Mari for Artek: Homage to Autoprogettazione” for the re-introduction of the Sedia 1 in 2010, in the documentation, the great master of Italian design explains the idea and the concept behind the chair.
Enzo Mari has developed toys, office tools and furniture.
