This Russian battleship was launched in 1911 as the Petropavlovsk, one of a class of four dreadnoughts, armed with twelve 12 in guns. Her crew took part in the general mutiny of the Baltic fleet following the February Revolution of 1917. In 1921 her crew was also involved in the Kronstadt Rebellion and, after this was crushed, the ship was renamed Marat. She was reconstructed between 1928 and 1931 and she provided fire support for Leningrad during that city’s siege by German troops in 1941. Marat was bombed and sunk in the port later in the month but was later refloated as a stationary battery. She was broken up in 1953. #battleship #navy #Russian #warship #World_War_II
