Clifford's Tower is an Ancient Scheduled Monument originally built by King Henry III in 1270 as part of a large stone 'York Castle' complex, it was known as 'The Great Tower'. The Motte on which it stands dates back to 1068 when it was formed by William the Conqueror, as part of the original York settlement. The site has a long and quite tragic history, but now serves as a main attraction for York's tourists, operated by English Heritage. Visitors can experience an insight into its history and stunning views across the City of York. #1068 #1270 #Ancient #Cliffords #England #English_Heritage #experiance #Great #historic #King_Henry_III #Monument #Motte #Sheduled #tourists #Tower #tragic #UK #William_the_Conqueror #York
