This mall, built in 1968, is the main shopping area in the Japantown (Nihonmachi) area off Geary Boulevard in San Francisco. It covers three blocks and consists of the Miyako Mall, Kintetsu Mall and Kinokuniya Building. Once the centre of a thriving 20-square-block Japanese-American community, the area suffered by the forced relocation of many of its inhabitants during World War II. Controversy surrounded the development of the area by corporations and the city redevelopment agency, and the end result is a bland mall with Japanese (and Korean)-themed stores and restaurants. The cinema at the western end in the Kinokuniya Building, Sundance Kabuki 8, hosts the San Francisco International Film Exposition each year. #asian #bubble_tea #cinema #japanese #Japantown #korean #mall #movie_theater #pagoda #peace #plaza #restaurants #San_Francisco #shopping_center #shops #taniguchi
