The Sarah Mildred Long Bridge was a lift bridge over the Piscataqua River between Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Kittery, Maine. It was a double-deck, with a road deck above and a railroad below.
The construction took place in the 1939-1940. The bridge had a length of 855 meters and a width of more than 9 meters. The Lift span open, for ships was 41 meter.
Upon its dedication in 1940 the Sarah Long was simply known as the Maine-New Hampshire Bridge. It was renamed in 1987 to honor Sarah Mildred Long, a 50-year employee of the Maine-New Hampshire Interstate Bridge Authority.
The demolition began on October 14, 2016 and was completed in April 2017. The new one was opened for traffic at the end of March 2018
