7-Eleven is a chain of convenience stores and convenience stores, its presence in the retail and large-scale distribution (GDO) market is very strong especially in the United States and Japan.
The points of sale are typically open 24 hours a day and for this reason are mainly aimed at tourists, students and workers, offering food and basic necessities, telecommunications services (telephone, fax) and banking (ATM).
In Japan, 7-Elevens are also known to the public under the name of Combini (コンビニ). This term refers to all convenience stores, small shops that are very popular especially in large Japanese cities, as they are cheaper and more widespread than normal supermarkets.
The chain was founded in 1927 starting as an ice store in Dallas. Between 1928 and 1946 it was called Tote'm Stores. Following the acquisition of 70% of the shares from an affiliate of Ito-Yokado in 1991, it was reorganized as a wholly owned subsidiary of Seven & I Holdings.
