This building is the best extant example of a colonial store that exists in Colonial Williamsburg. It was built in 1740 by Prentis & Company. The tea that the Yorktown patriots threw ito the York River in 1774 had been consigned to this firm.
The building survived in it's original state into the 20th Century probably because it had been turned into a gas station. This model was created with the aid of drawings from the HABS Colonial Williamsburg survey of 1976. #brick_building #colonial #Prentis #store
