Architect John Randal McDonald designed this house for a location south of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. When first built, the owners had a view of Lake Michigan from the raised living area. The house is based on a kite form, which is obvious in an overhead view. Two bedrooms are set in the rear of the house, and each opens to a private back yard patio. The front of the house rises to the view with a large prow of glass. The lower level opens to a sunken patio area somewhat hidden from the street.
In addition to the house itself, McDonald designed all of the built-in furniture.
My model was created from the original plans for the house. Changes were made initially when the house was built to enclose the area off of the lower level with a screened-in porch, which was later turned into an all-season room. The garage as shown in my model was not built this way in the real house. It was left open as a carport with the main door at the back without the corridor shown in the model.
